Gateway Foundation Announces 2025 Beacon House Community Fund Grant Recipients

Grants totaling $200,000 Awarded to Drive Monterey County’s Substance Use Disorder Prevention and Recovery Efforts

Pacific Grove, CA – (December 9, 2025) – Gateway Foundation, one of the largest and longest-running nonprofit providers of substance use and mental health disorder services, has awarded eight Beacon House Community Fund Grants totaling $200,000 to local organizations dedicated to substance use disorder (SUD) prevention and support. These grants honor Beacon House’s mission and legacy of service to Monterey County’s recovery community.

The 2025 Beacon House Community Fund Grants will help local nonprofits expand outreach, strengthen recovery programs, and improve access for individuals traditionally disconnected from care. The 2025 recipients are:

  • Central Coast Overdose Prevention (CCODP) received $25,000 to establish a permanent outreach and care coordination hub in downtown Monterey. This vital initiative aims to expand access to SUD services for those most in need and build stronger connections within the community.
  • Community Human Services was awarded $25,000 to help purchase a used multi-passenger vehicle, ensuring that more individuals access resources they require.
  • Door to Hope will use its $25,000 grant to launch the Recovery Services Program, which is designed to help clients overcome common barriers to recovery and enhance their ability to deliver long-term, trauma-informed care.
  • Motivating Individual Leadership for Public Advancement (MILPA) also received $25,000, to further support its ongoing efforts to provide essential resources for those impacted by substance use disorder.
  • Monterey Sober Living for Women (MSLW) was awarded $25,000 to help purchase a permanent residence for Monterey Sober Living for Women.
  • National Alliance on Mental Health Illness (NAMI) Monterey County will use its $25,000 grant to help secure NAMI Monterey County’s permanent headquarters and drop-in center in Salinas.
  • Sun Street Centers received 25,000 to expand its evidence-based outpatient treatment and prevention programs into the City of Monterey.
  • The Village Project, Inc. was awarded $25,000 to support its Healing in Motion program that expands Freedom Reigns equine-assisted therapy, which integrates equine therapy, sober living, and culturally affirming case management.

Nonprofit organizations with missions aligned with the former Beacon House are encouraged to apply for grant funding. Priority will be given to initiatives focused on providing treatment for SUD, co-occurring mental health, and related education, advocacy, and outreach to underserved populations.

Beacon House, acquired by Gateway Foundation in 2018, was a nonprofit substance use disorder and mental health support facility located in Pacific Grove, CA dedicated to promoting wellness and providing resources for individuals. Beacon House operations ceased in 2021 largely as a result of the COVID pandemic but continues to support health and wellness initiatives related to substance use disorders through grant funding opportunities.
