Introduction
The Treatment Works Annotated Bibliography
is a review of research literature related to substance abuse treatment
effectiveness. The articles reviewed
represent the most current research on treatment effectiveness and articles
considered key studies. The research articles are categorized according
to topic and at the end of the bibliography is a grid summarizing which
topics are addressed in each article.
The key core outcomes emerging from the literature are:
- Substance abuse treatment reduces drug use
by 40% to 60%.
- A continuum of treatment which includes in-prison
treatment followed by community-based treatment
reduces criminal activity by 30% to 50%.
